Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns let Higgins fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Browns watched Jay Higgins slide 91 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They will need Parrish to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The offensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
They read the board right and Walter Nolen was the payoff at slot 33. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jihaad Campbell
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in the 67th overall pick, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick95 Rnd3 Jaxson Dart
Good price on Jaxson Dart in pick No. 95, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at the 102nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jacob Parrish
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jacob Parrish this early at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant in pick 163 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177 Rnd6 Elijah Arroyo
They robbed the room for Elijah Arroyo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick190 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 190th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at pick No. 198 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick215 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at slot 215 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick256 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at No. 256. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
