Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Frank Gore Jr. in slot 195. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with quarterback, safety and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 JC Latham
In the 20th overall pick they get a blindside protector. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A want over a need in No. 51: Zach Frazier adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, safety and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick84 Rnd3 Jalen McMillan
The board had cheaper options than Jalen McMillan at pick 84, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They jumped the gun on Maason Smith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
A tidy little value on Elijah Jones in Round 4, Pick 19, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett at the 178th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick195 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They reached a country mile for Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
