A franchise passer in Maye headlines a D- weekend for the Bears. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bears shredded theirs for Cody Schrader. He came off 33 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Landing Pritchett that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get a true top target. A real need, handled.
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
A reach for Kris Jenkins in slot 40; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Good price on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
Shilo Sanders
Shilo Sanders at the 121st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick124
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roman Wilson in No. 124. The roster fit checks out.
Pick132
Rnd4
Connor Colby
Nothing to complain about; Connor Colby went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick141
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
They read the board right and Nehemiah Pritchett was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
