The Patriots let Bywater fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Bywater. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The veteran additions, Justin Fields chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 2 with a little surplus value in Jordan Morgan. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick67 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
Nothing to complain about; Brandon Dorlus went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.

No edge and no loss on Malachi Corley in pick No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
