FutureA+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Patriots. The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Nick Nash, taking him 147 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
On value alone, Higgins makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Josh Conerly Jr.
In pick 23 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at the 39th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick45
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Value said wait; Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick No. 45 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
The board had Tyler Warren higher than No. 54, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in the 70th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
They reached into another round for Tez Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick80
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in the 80th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick106
Rnd4
Nick Nash
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nick Nash well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick118
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A big swing on Cam Skattebo at Round 4, Pick 17, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick141
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams at pick No. 141 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick191
Rnd6
Carson Schwesinger
Circle this one: Carson Schwesinger at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick 199 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jonah Monheim
They did well to land Jonah Monheim in No. 221, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick223
Rnd7
Elijah Arroyo
They barely believed it either: Elijah Arroyo still on the board at slot 223. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235
Rnd7
Clay Webb
They read the board right and Clay Webb was the payoff at the 235th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick237
Rnd7
RJ Harvey
They left a pile of value on the table to take RJ Harvey this early at Round 7, Pick 23. It fills a real need, too.
