Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins clearly saw something nobody else did in Hayden Conner, taking him 41 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Starks at that price is a win they earned.

The Dolphins indulged a want in Starks while a need in quarterback, edge rusher and other spots stayed open. Steve Avila gives the group a proven body among the projects.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In the 26th pick they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Malaki Starks adds a safety and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tai Felton
By-the-book stuff, Tai Felton at pick No. 98 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
They read the board right and Jordan Phillips was the payoff at the 116th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick127 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
The board had Joshua Farmer higher than No. 127, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick135 Rnd4 Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson in slot 135 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick150 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne in pick No. 150 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
They went early on Chase Lundt in pick 155, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick257 Rnd7 Sam Brown Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sam Brown Jr. at No. 257 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
