Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Panthers. The one they had to fix is still broken. The Panthers left linebacker untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
Reaching for Zinter left real value on the table behind him. Getting Muhammad III where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at Round 2, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Jason Marshall Jr. at pick 101, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd5
AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at slot 138, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick164
Rnd5
Gabriel Murphy
They paid sticker price for Gabriel Murphy in the 164th pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
A slide stopped in No. 180, with Moose Muhammad III worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
No edge and no loss on Joshua Gray in pick No. 222; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
