FutureB-
The 49ers lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The 49ers spent real capital to be 42 picks early on Derrick Moore, and the board is going to hold them to it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That Daniels pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
They talked themselves into Derrick Moore at the 58th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick92
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daylen Everette. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick100
Rnd3
Joe Royer
Joe Royer at pick No. 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They liked DeMonte Capehart enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 127. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Nothing to complain about; Logan Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in slot 138 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Fair-plus on Xavier Nwankpa, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
