Draft Grade — Giants

FutureA+
The Giants turned the phones into found money: A-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Giants took Marcus Dumervil a full 67 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In pick 24 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
A big swing on JT Tuimoloau at the 34th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
No drama and no debate, Tyler Warren went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Somehow Omarion Hampton was still sitting there in slot 45, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick65
Rnd3
Will Howard
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Howard well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jack Nelson
A conviction pick on Jack Nelson at the 97th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick103
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
They reached into another round for Rylie Mills, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd4
DeMonte Capehart
They paid up for DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jaylin Noel
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Noel in Round 5, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick153
Rnd5
Ty Hamilton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ty Hamilton this early at slot 153. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the 219th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Marcus Dumervil
Marcus Dumervil at pick No. 246 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
