FutureB-
The Colts checked most of the boxes and earned a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Colts did exactly that with Jared Wiley in pick 150. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Gore Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 23 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick46
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 46th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 59 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 18 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
No edge and no loss on Marshawn Kneeland in the 86th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick118
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A reach for Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 118; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wiley in the 150th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick193
Rnd6
Brevyn Spann-Ford
A big swing on Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 193rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick232
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
