Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers robbed the room for Barton. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Lander Barton, the No. 127 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 226th pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The Trapilo reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
Good price on Mason Graham in pick No. 11, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick75 Rnd3 Colston Loveland
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at No. 75 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in Round 3, Pick 35 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick111 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in slot 111 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick137 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at pick 137. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185 Rnd6 Nicholas Singleton
Taking Nicholas Singleton in the 185th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226 Rnd7 Lander Barton
Lander Barton in the 226th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick230 Rnd7 Jonah Monheim
They let Jonah Monheim come to them and pounced at pick No. 230. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 Eli Stowers
Eli Stowers at the 249th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick255 Rnd7 DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
