S4d5f6 DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the Round 5 slot is 52 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 38th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jack Bech
A tidy little value on Jack Bech in the 69th pick, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
A real head-scratcher, Ashton Gillotte in No. 77 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce in slot 106 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They reached into another round for KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick217
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
A clean, defensible pick in No. 217 with a little surplus value in R.J. Mickens. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at the 220th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick238
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
They read the board right and Cam Jackson was the payoff at slot 238. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
