Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D-.

The Kevin Winston Jr. selection is the head-turner. The 49ers reached 69 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Campbell to cover a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick No. 21 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 DJ Campbell
No edge and no loss on DJ Campbell in the 39th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick48 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and T.J. Sanders at slot 48 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick79 Rnd3 Colston Loveland
A quiet steal in the 79th pick: Colston Loveland for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick80 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Darien Porter in pick 80 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick101 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at Round 3, Pick 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 Deone Walker
A reach on Deone Walker in the 115th overall pick; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick137 Rnd4 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 137 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jihaad Campbell
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in slot 192, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick234 Rnd7 Ben Yurosek
Ben Yurosek at the 234th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247 Rnd7 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at pick 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
