Draft Grade — Giants

FutureB-
The Giants left with their quarterback, and a B- to match. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Giants committed. Cam Ward is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
However the rest shakes out, Mullings at that price is a win they earned. The Caldwell reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In the 5th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Shemar Stewart
The board fumbled Shemar Stewart all the way to slot 34, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick65
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A reach on Darien Porter in No. 65; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
You do not let a tight end like Harold Fannin Jr. reach pick No. 70 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jamaree Caldwell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jamaree Caldwell this early at pick 99. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Value said wait; Oluwafemi Oladejo in the 114th pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick118
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Circle this one: Andrew Mukuba at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
The board had cheaper options than Luke Kandra at Round 5, Pick 8, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick159
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in Round 5, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick194
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 194. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kalel Mullings
Kalel Mullings at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick242
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They went early on Teddye Buchanan in the 242nd pick, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
Nice patience on Jermari Harris, who had no business lasting to No. 246. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
