FutureA+
The Giants won the night they stopped Robertson from sliding. Grade: A-. This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Sawyer Robertson, the No. 194 name on the board, stolen at Round 7, Pick 17. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The veteran additions, Kolton Miller chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 13 they get a green-dot type in the middle. More want than need.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at slot 34 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Germie Bernard. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102
Rnd4
Adon Shuler
They took Adon Shuler at par in the 102nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick153
Rnd5
Demond Claiborne
A tidy bit of business in the 153rd pick, where Demond Claiborne graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick182
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
They paid sticker price for Aamil Wagner in pick 182, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
A straight-up fair deal on Antonio Kite at pick No. 191, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick193
Rnd6
Rayshaun Benny
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rayshaun Benny. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jaren Kanak
Jaren Kanak at slot 217 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Sawyer Robertson
Sawyer Robertson in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
