Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bengals for Mims: D.

The phones were a trap the Bengals kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Benson left real value on the table behind him. On value alone, Mims makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In the 18th overall pick they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 23rd pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
The board fumbled Amarius Mims all the way to No. 49, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick86 Rnd3 Trey Benson
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick116 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea at pick 116 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick148 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick175 Rnd5 Johnny Dixon
They paid sticker price for Johnny Dixon in pick 175, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
