The 49ers jumped the board for Ayomanor and paid for it: F.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The 49ers reached some 38 spots for Elic Ayomanor, and value like that does not grow back. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
In the 12th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick13 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick30 Rnd1 Elic Ayomanor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Elic Ayomanor. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick34 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
A clean, defensible pick in pick 34 with a little surplus value in Emeka Egbuka. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick42 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
No edge and no loss on Xavier Watts in No. 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
