Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Steelers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 94 spots for Collin Oliver, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

Landing Ransom that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick50 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at the 50th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick61 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in pick No. 61 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
They let Jayden Higgins come to them and pounced at pick 82. The roster fit checks out.
Pick83 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Will Howard
Will Howard at Round 4, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 120 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick123 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the 123rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
You do not let a quarterback like Tyler Shough reach the 156th pick and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick172 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Taking Lathan Ransom in No. 172 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185 Rnd6 Logan Brown
Logan Brown at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick229 Rnd7 Collin Oliver
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Collin Oliver well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
