Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureC
The Saints let Shough fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Saints watched Tyler Shough slide 60 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The cost of the Webb reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 9 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick71 Rnd3 Marcus Mbow
Circle this one: Marcus Mbow at the 71st pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in No. 93 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
By-the-book stuff, Terrance Ferguson at Round 4, Pick 10 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick115 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A tidy bit of business in the 115th overall pick, where Malachi Moore graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick186 Rnd6 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley at pick No. 186 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick192 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cobee Bryant at pick 192. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick197 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
Somehow Tyler Shough was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 19, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Clay Webb
A big swing on Clay Webb at pick 203, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204 Rnd6 Kyle Monangai
A tidy little value on Kyle Monangai in the 204th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick254 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Taking Isaac TeSlaa in slot 254 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
