Draft Grade — Titans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesA FutureD+
Nobody dealt better than the Titans this weekend: B-.

The real work happened on the phones. The Titans fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They are betting Wilson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

It is not that James is a bad player; it is that the Titans had louder needs to answer first.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Kris Abrams-Draine
In the 26th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick46 Rnd2 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at slot 46 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
The board had cheaper options than Jonathon Brooks at pick 49, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick50 Rnd2 D.J. James
A curious use of Round 2, Pick 18. Interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in D.J. James did not.
Pick78 Rnd3 Jack Sawyer
Fair-plus on Jack Sawyer, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Roman Wilson at the 109th pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in No. 110 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick114 Rnd4 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick No. 114 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick157 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
They went early on Jaylin Simpson in the 157th overall pick, and the value did not follow. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick162 Rnd5 Tre Harris
No edge and no loss on Tre Harris in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
