Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Stone: B+.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched David Stone slide 35 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

The cost of the Rappleyea reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick38 Rnd2 Ryan Coleman-Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Ryan Coleman-Williams at pick 38, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45 Rnd2 David Stone
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, David Stone in the 45th pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Sammy Brown
Sammy Brown is a better player than pick No. 69 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71 Rnd3 Andrew Sprague
They took Andrew Sprague at par in slot 71, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick84 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
No drama and no debate, Kade Pieper went about where he belonged in the 84th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick93 Rnd3 Peyton Bowen
Circle this one: Peyton Bowen at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson at No. 121 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick163 Rnd5 Braelin Moore
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 25, with Braelin Moore worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick172 Rnd5 Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick173 Rnd5 Eric Singleton Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Singleton Jr. at the 173rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick185 Rnd6 Andrew Rappleyea
A premium they did not need to pay, Andrew Rappleyea a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jay'Vion Cole
Fair-plus on Jay'Vion Cole, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick250 Rnd7 Evan Stewart
They paid sticker price for Evan Stewart in pick No. 250, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
