FutureA
The Commanders cashed the board's mistake on Washington: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Getting Washington where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Tae Johnson
They paid sticker price for Tae Johnson in the 26th pick, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick60
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
They robbed the room for A'Mauri Washington here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kelley Jones
Kelley Jones in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick91
Rnd3
Nick Marsh
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nick Marsh. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Justin Evans
Justin Evans at pick 126 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick160
Rnd5
Drew Azzopardi
They took Drew Azzopardi at par in pick No. 160, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Somehow Jermaine Mathews Jr. was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 35, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185
Rnd6
Andrew Rappleyea
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Rappleyea at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
Christian Alliegro in pick 196 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
