The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B+. You can hear the double-takes from here. The 49ers took Shaun Dolac at the 252nd pick, roughly 89 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Landing Huzzie that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In slot 23 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in the 43rd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
A wild overpay on Darius Alexander in the Round 3 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Sai'vion Jones
They reached into another round for Sai'vion Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
They took Anthony Belton at par in pick No. 113, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd4
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at the 138th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick147
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at slot 147 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at Round 5, Pick 11 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
A premium they did not need to pay, Ajani Cornelius a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in pick 198 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 204th pick is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick227
Rnd7
Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley in the 227th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick237
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Value said wait; Tonka Hemingway in No. 237 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick252
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shaun Dolac this early at slot 252. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
