Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA
Daniels is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a C+. Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Baker.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman went begging.
Hit on Jayden Daniels and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
By-the-book stuff, Jayden Daniels at pick No. 8 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in the 36th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick68
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Nothing to complain about; Audric Estime went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman sat open.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at No. 139 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick145
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A premium they did not need to pay, Ty'Ron Hopper a notch or two before his time. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick182
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
The board had Kitan Oladapo higher than slot 182, and the safety fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick201
Rnd6
Javon Baker
They will replay Javon Baker at Round 6, Pick 26 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Blake Watson
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Watson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Myles Jones
Myles Jones at slot 232 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
