Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions won the night they stopped McGlothern from sliding. Grade: B-.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Lions were there to profit. Dwight McGlothern, the No. 161 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 6, Pick 26. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Grable reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Darius Robinson
In the 29th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick61 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick73 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk in pick 73 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick164 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at No. 164 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick201 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
Circle this one: Dwight McGlothern at the Round 6 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick205 Rnd6 Tylan Grable
They talked themselves into Tylan Grable at Round 6, Pick 30, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Matt Lee
Matt Lee in slot 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
