Draft Grade — Bengals

Good, not great, for the Bengals: B-.

The war room fell hard for Jaylen Wright, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 18: 72 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They banked enough surplus on McGlothern to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In No. 18 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
They reached a country mile for Byron Murphy II at pick No. 49, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80 Rnd3 Josh Newton
They will replay Josh Newton at slot 80 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick115 Rnd4 Roman Wilson
Taking Roman Wilson in the 115th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
They took Ben Sinnott at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick173 Rnd5 Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at Round 5, Pick 37 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at Round 6, Pick 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in slot 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick254 Rnd7 Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern in the 254th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
