Draft Grade — Chargers

FutureB
The Chargers let Echoles fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. The Chargers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Will Echoles fell into pick 55. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Every board in the league had Crawford lower, and that gap is the story.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Steal is underselling it; Will Echoles at slot 55 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59
Rnd2
Chris Cole
Chris Cole in pick No. 59 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick86
Rnd3
Samson Okunlola
They robbed the room for Samson Okunlola here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Luke Montgomery
They barely believed it either: Luke Montgomery still on the board at Round 3, Pick 33. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick98
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in No. 98 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113
Rnd4
Kameryn Crawford
Kameryn Crawford at the 113th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick122
Rnd4
J'Koby Williams
J'Koby Williams at pick 122 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125
Rnd4
A.J. Harris
A.J. Harris at the 125th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick162
Rnd5
Drew Bobo
Drew Bobo at pick No. 162 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick194
Rnd6
Benjamin Brahmer
Benjamin Brahmer slipping to No. 194 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick201
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
Nothing to complain about; Christian Alliegro went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick202
Rnd6
DeAndre Moore Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on DeAndre Moore Jr. at slot 202, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick209
Rnd6
La'khi Roland
A reasonable price with a little left over, La'khi Roland in the Round 6 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick216
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
No drama and no debate, Antonio Kite went about where he belonged in the 216th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230
Rnd7
Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at pick 230 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick234
Rnd7
John Mateer
John Mateer slid further than he should have, and slot 234 is lovely value for the quarterback. The roster fit checks out.
Pick240
Rnd7
Nyziah Hunter
A tidy little value on Nyziah Hunter in the 240th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243
Rnd7
Addison Nichols
Nice patience on Addison Nichols, who had no business lasting to No. 243. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick244
Rnd7
D'Antre Robinson
A conviction pick on D'Antre Robinson at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245
Rnd7
Evan Stewart
A reach for Evan Stewart in pick 245; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick253
Rnd7
Kelby Collins
A premium they did not need to pay, Kelby Collins a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
