Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C for the Steelers.

The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Amarius Mims, the No. 22 name on the board, in Round 2, Pick 20. Call it a C and check back in two years.

Reaching for Powers-Johnson left real value on the table behind him. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jackson Powers-Johnson this early at the 20th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick52 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Amarius Mims in Round 2, Pick 20 leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots for later.
Pick84 Rnd3 Braden Fiske
Nothing to complain about; Braden Fiske went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick120 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at No. 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jaden Hicks
The board had Jaden Hicks higher than slot 121, and the safety fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick124 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
A wild overpay on Luke McCaffrey in pick No. 124, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jontrey Hunter
By-the-book stuff, Jontrey Hunter at Round 7, Pick 18 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
