Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB+
FutureB+
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Seahawks a B. The Seahawks clearly saw something nobody else did in Jack Westover, taking him 70 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Puni to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick54
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 54 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Braden Fiske
By-the-book stuff, Braden Fiske at pick 57 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick70
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sedrick Van Pran. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick81
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in slot 93 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick102
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
The board had Dominick Puni higher than the 102nd pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at slot 103, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick118
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Fair-plus on Cedric Gray, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick156
Rnd5
AJ Barner
They paid a round early for AJ Barner in Round 5, Pick 20, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick179
Rnd6
Jordan Jefferson
They paid sticker price for Jordan Jefferson in No. 179, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick192
Rnd6
Bub Means
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Bub Means well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220
Rnd6
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at the 220th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Nathan Thomas
Nothing to complain about; Nathan Thomas went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jack Westover
A big swing on Jack Westover at pick No. 250, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
