Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Texans a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Tyler Baron at pick 134. The Texans jumped the board by 33 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Baker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Deone Walker
In the 24th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at Round 2, Pick 9 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in pick No. 63 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88 Rnd3 Nic Anderson
The board had Nic Anderson higher than the Round 3 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102 Rnd4 Dasan McCullough
Dasan McCullough is a better player than the 102nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
They paid up for Davison Igbinosun at slot 120 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick134 Rnd5 Tyler Baron
Tyler Baron in pick No. 134 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick155 Rnd5 Will Sheppard
They liked Will Sheppard enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 155. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick216 Rnd7 Tosh Baker
Tosh Baker at the 216th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick219 Rnd7 Kaidon Salter
Somehow Kaidon Salter was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 27, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jordan James
No edge and no loss on Jordan James in the 223rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
