The tape said wait; the Patriots did not. Noah Daniels went at pick No. 257, a good 132 picks before the board was ready.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Knight Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Emmanwori to cover a lot of smaller sins.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
