Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Eric Watts at the Round 4 slot, roughly 54 spots before his name belonged. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Williams falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Good price on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 41st overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick No. 57 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick90 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
A premium they did not need to pay, Dominick Puni a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mike Sainristil at pick 91 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 James Williams
A conviction pick on James Williams at the 125th pick that the board grades a round light. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick135 Rnd4 Eric Watts
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Eric Watts well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick155 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
They paid sticker price for Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick203 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
Circle this one: Michael Barrett at pick 203 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick211 Rnd6 Christian Jones
They read the board right and Christian Jones was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 36. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand at the 217th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick219 Rnd6 Maurice Smith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Maurice Smith in No. 219, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Pick237 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
Miyan Williams in pick No. 237 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick246 Rnd7 Zakhari Franklin
A slide stopped in the 246th overall pick, with Zakhari Franklin worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
