Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueA- NeedB TradesF FutureA-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Fitzgerald: C+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 228. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick 23 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
Nice patience on Grey Zabel, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 11. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick48 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
They let Tyleik Williams come to them and pounced at slot 48. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick99 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
Circle this one: Gunnar Helm at the 99th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick112 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 112th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick No. 138 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139 Rnd4 Chris Paul Jr.
The board fumbled Chris Paul Jr. all the way to No. 139, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Cam Skattebo
They robbed the room for Cam Skattebo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
Ryan Fitzgerald in the 228th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick232 Rnd7 DJ Campbell
They did well to land DJ Campbell in the 232nd pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick255 Rnd7 Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales in No. 255 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
