FutureA+
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D+. Some picks age like wine; Emery Jones Jr. at No. 115 will need to, sitting 84 spots clear of his grade. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
Perkins Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
A slide stopped in slot 36, with Tate Ratledge worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
James Pearce Jr.
They robbed the room for James Pearce Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Pick39
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III in No. 39 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at the 45th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jack Sawyer
Jack Sawyer at pick No. 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick115
Rnd4
Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at pick 115 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick188
Rnd6
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jaydn Ott
No edge and no loss on Jaydn Ott in the 234th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247
Rnd7
Oscar Delp
A conviction pick on Oscar Delp at No. 247 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jimmy Horn Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jimmy Horn Jr.. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254
Rnd7
Cooper Mays
They paid up for Cooper Mays at Round 7, Pick 40 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
