When a board-topper like DJ Giddens slides to pick 228, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not.

Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.

They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
