FutureC
Flashes of a plan, unevenly run, for the Patriots: C+. For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Patriots walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
Getting Jordan where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Every board in the league had McCarthy lower, and that gap is the story.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
J.J. McCarthy in the 34th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick43
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick No. 43 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
The board had cheaper options than Christian Haynes at No. 68, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick103
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Blake Fisher at Round 4, Pick 3 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
A straight-up fair deal on Ben Sinnott at pick 139, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick182
Rnd6
Andru Phillips
A quiet steal in the 182nd pick: Andru Phillips for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan slid further than he should have, and slot 224 is lovely value for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Good price on Daequan Hardy in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
