Draft Grade — Packers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB FutureB
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a B weekend for the Packers.

You build a draft on nights like this. DJ James had no business being available in the 219th overall pick, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.

The Packers indulged a want in Williams while a need in wide receiver, tight end and other spots stayed open.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Drake Maye
Steal is underselling it; Drake Maye at pick 25 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
A tidy bit of business in slot 41, where Tyler Nubin graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick70 Rnd3 Jonathon Brooks
Nice patience on Jonathon Brooks, who had no business lasting to the 70th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88 Rnd3 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in the 88th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91 Rnd3 Josh Newton
They robbed the room for Josh Newton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Value with a capital V on Dominick Puni in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 James Williams
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. James Williams in pick No. 125 leaves wide receiver, tight end and other spots for later.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 135 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154 Rnd5 Christian Jones
A wild overpay on Christian Jones in Round 5, Pick 18, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Tyrice Knight
Somehow Tyrice Knight was still sitting there in pick 203, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick217 Rnd6 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in No. 217 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219 Rnd6 DJ James
DJ James in pick No. 219 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick246 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
They will replay Miyan Williams at the 246th pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
