FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Lachey: B. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Luke Lachey fell into the 245th pick.
The cost of the Thornton Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick58
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at Round 2, Pick 26 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick61
Rnd2
Darien Porter
A reach for Darien Porter in slot 61; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick62
Rnd2
Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
The board had Hollin Pierce higher than pick 128, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132
Rnd4
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Value said wait; Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick166
Rnd5
Emery Jones Jr.
They will replay Emery Jones Jr. at No. 166 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten at the 169th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick170
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at the 170th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick205
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at slot 205 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick245
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 245th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
