Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Newton from sliding. Grade: B+.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Josh Newton, the No. 82 name on the board, stolen at the Round 5 slot. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

They are betting Logue proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The veteran additions, Kelee Ringo chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick52 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at Round 2, Pick 20 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick84 Rnd3 Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at pick No. 84 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A reach for Cedric Gray in slot 120; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138 Rnd5 Josh Newton
Steal is underselling it; Josh Newton at the 138th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181 Rnd6 Andrew Raym
A real head-scratcher, Andrew Raym in No. 181 is miles ahead of his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick198 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in the 198th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238 Rnd7 Zion Logue
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
