Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B-.

The Bears treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 147th pick on Jacob Cowing a full 31 spots early. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Irving where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Marvin Harrison Jr. at slot 1 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick10 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
No edge and no loss on Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at pick No. 74 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick110 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the 110th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 4, Pick 26 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jacob Cowing
They talked themselves into Jacob Cowing at No. 147, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick188 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman is a better player than Round 6, Pick 13 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick231 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Steele Chambers at slot 231 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
