FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the B. The Cowboys torched the value chart for Jalen McLeod, taking him 36 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Amos pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
A slide stopped in pick No. 33, with Luther Burden III worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick39
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Trey Amos
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Trey Amos in the 76th overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at the 149th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 33 is lovely value for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
They reached into another round for Jalen McLeod, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick204
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the 204th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick211
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
The board had Thomas Fidone II higher than Round 6, Pick 35, and the tight end fell to them anyway. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick216
Rnd6
Nazir Stackhouse
A tidy little value on Nazir Stackhouse in slot 216, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick247
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in pick No. 247 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
