Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA FutureC
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Steelers reached some 140 spots for Xavier Truss, and value like that does not grow back.

The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Derrick Harmon
No drama and no debate, Derrick Harmon went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 32. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick50 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
They paid sticker price for Azareye'h Thomas in the 50th overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick52 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 52nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick134 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Taking Savion Williams in slot 134 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick156 Rnd5 Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick161 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at pick 161 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185 Rnd6 John Williams
They talked themselves into John Williams at slot 185, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick229 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
Donovan Smith in the 229th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
