Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B to prove it.

You could see the war room lean forward. Omar Speights at No. 232 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They will need Logue to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 3 they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kiran Amegadjie well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 103 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick139 Rnd5 Daijun Edwards
Fair-plus on Daijun Edwards, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182 Rnd6 Braiden McGregor
Braiden McGregor in the 182nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Zion Logue
Zion Logue at Round 7, Pick 4 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232 Rnd7 Omar Speights
Omar Speights at pick 232 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
