Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Texans walked right past. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

On value alone, McMillan makes the weekend a net positive. Yurosek has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 25 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They paid a round early for Tate Ratledge in the 58th pick, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick79 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jackson in pick No. 79, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Chris Paul Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick166 Rnd5 Ollie Gordon II
A straight-up fair deal on Ollie Gordon II at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick236 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at Round 7, Pick 20 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick241 Rnd7 Ben Yurosek
A big swing on Ben Yurosek at the 241st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
