Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
Conviction outran the board for the 49ers, and it cost them: F.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Derrick Moore at Round 4, Pick 6 regardless, 48 picks early. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Kilgore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with tight end still staring back at them.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In No. 26 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt at the 38th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58 Rnd2 Zion Young
They talked themselves into Zion Young at Round 2, Pick 26, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick63 Rnd2 Deontae Lawson
They took Deontae Lawson at par in pick 63, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick77 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan in pick No. 77 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omar Cooper Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick90 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington in No. 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Anto Saka
Anto Saka at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
A real head-scratcher, Derrick Moore in pick 106 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch at pick No. 110 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
Bishop Fitzgerald in the 121st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end to take Jalon Kilgore, a safety that was not the priority.
Pick133 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson is a better player than slot 133 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
They left a pile of value on the table to take DeMonte Capehart this early at Round 4, Pick 35. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 138 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick153 Rnd5 Tacario Davis
Circle this one: Tacario Davis at the 153rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick171 Rnd5 Darius Taylor
A reach for Darius Taylor in pick 171; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195 Rnd6 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss in the 195th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
