Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B.

The real work happened on the phones. The Steelers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Getting Walker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the 21st pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
Pick48 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 48 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick55 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
No edge and no loss on Quinyon Mitchell in pick No. 55; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick80 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
Of all the spots to shop, they chose offensive lineman. Zach Frazier in No. 80 leaves quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots for later.
Pick113 Rnd4 Junior Colson
A straight-up fair deal on Junior Colson at Round 4, Pick 13, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick116 Rnd4 Devontez Walker
A slide stopped in slot 116, with Devontez Walker worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick121 Rnd4 James Williams
The board had cheaper options than James Williams at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in the 194th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237 Rnd7 Luke Reimer
Luke Reimer at slot 237 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
