Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in the 21st overall pick: the Steelers steal Jeanty and grade out a D+.

Somebody took the Steelers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

Reaching for Shough left real value on the table behind him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Jeanty at that price is a win they earned.

Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In pick 21 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenneth Grant at the 36th pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick83 Rnd3 Savion Williams
They paid a round early for Savion Williams in Round 3, Pick 19, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tyler Shough
They reached a country mile for Tyler Shough at No. 123, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick156 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in pick No. 156 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick185 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 185 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick229 Rnd7 Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson is a better player than Round 7, Pick 13 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
