Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureA
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cowboys shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Logue proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 8 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
A slide stopped in No. 24, with Dallas Turner worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at pick 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with tight end open.
Pick87
Rnd3
Michael Pratt
They went early on Michael Pratt in slot 87, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the 88th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Javon Foster
No drama and no debate, Javon Foster went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 25. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick142
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
A conviction pick on Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick182
Rnd6
Javon Baker
Javon Baker at pick 182 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick213
Rnd6
Myles Jones
They took Myles Jones at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at Round 7, Pick 21 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick242
Rnd7
Zion Logue
Zion Logue at No. 242 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
