Draft Grade — Giants

FutureB-
The Giants found their guy under center in Beck: D. You could see the war room lean forward. Riley Leonard at the 182nd pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
Whatever Carson Beck becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They will need Powell-Ryland to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In pick 16 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick17
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In slot 17 they get a passer to set the clock by, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In No. 20 they get a long-term answer under center at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
They robbed the room for Emeka Egbuka here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at pick No. 70 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
They did well to land Danny Stutsman in Round 3, Pick 7, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick92
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
Circle this one: Ajani Cornelius at pick 92 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Donovan Jackson reach the 102nd pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Josh Simmons
Somehow Josh Simmons was still sitting there in the 124th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134
Rnd5
Cameron Ward
The board fumbled Cameron Ward all the way to the 134th pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard in No. 139 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Blake Miller
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Blake Miller in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in pick No. 166 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd6
Tyler Baron
They barely believed it either: Tyler Baron still on the board at the 167th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick182
Rnd6
Riley Leonard
They will replay Riley Leonard at slot 182 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at pick 184 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188
Rnd6
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
A big swing on Antwaun Powell-Ryland at Round 6, Pick 28, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Travis. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jake Johnson
They reached into another round for Jake Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh slid further than he should have, and No. 220 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
