Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
C+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
The Giants bet the future on Beck. The board says C+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Garrett Nussmeier, the No. 63 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 172nd pick. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Carson Beck gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
They are betting Gadsden II proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart is a better player than pick 38 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Quincy Riley
A clean, defensible pick in No. 70 with a little surplus value in Quincy Riley. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102
Rnd4
Nick Emmanwori
The board had cheaper options than Nick Emmanwori at Round 4, Pick 6, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd5
Tory Horton
They robbed the room for Tory Horton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Davison Igbinosun in the 139th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick140
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
A quiet steal in slot 140: Jonah Monheim for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
No edge and no loss on Jaydn Ott in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Billy Bowman Jr. a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166
Rnd6
Thor Griffith
A reach for Thor Griffith in the 166th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick172
Rnd6
Garrett Nussmeier
The board fumbled Garrett Nussmeier all the way to pick 172, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick173
Rnd6
Theo Wease Jr.
No drama and no debate, Theo Wease Jr. went about where he belonged in slot 173. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick189
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
They will replay Francisco Mauigoa at the 189th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick198
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick204
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
A big swing on Oronde Gadsden II at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219
Rnd7
Gerald Mincey
Nothing to complain about; Gerald Mincey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
